瑞士罗曼德管弦乐团在指挥乔纳森·诺特（Jonathan Nott）的带领下，重新演绎了两版《佩利亚斯与梅丽桑德》。比利时剧作家莫里斯·梅特林克的同名剧本给了很多作曲家灵感，德彪西根据这部作品创作了同名歌剧，勋伯格创作了交响诗。乔纳森·诺特将德彪西的这部歌剧改编成组曲，使之更符合交响乐的发展逻辑。而勋伯格的《佩利亚斯与梅丽桑德》通常被认为叙事结构晦涩难懂，乔纳森·诺特根据原剧重新划分曲目并加入标题，使听众更容易理解音乐与故事的关系。

乔纳森·诺特（Jonathan Nott），英国指挥家。就读于剑桥大学，在曼彻斯特学习声乐和长笛演奏，在伦敦学习指挥。1988年在巴蒂尼亚诺歌剧节上首次登台指挥。在步入欧洲音乐舞台后，诺特选择以德国作为自己事业发展的起点，从乐队指挥到威斯巴登歌剧院总监，之后转向卢塞恩，担任卢塞恩交响乐团首席指挥。2000年1月起开始担任班贝格交响乐团首席指挥。在他任职以来的六年间，他定期与乐团进行海外巡演，包括近期到纽约、南美、日本、俄罗斯以及在爱丁堡艺术节上演出。2006年他与班贝格交响乐团将他的任职合同续签至2009－2010音乐季。诺特是一位极为热心的当代音乐倡导者，曾指挥首演芬尼修、里姆和拉欣曼的许多新作。2000年8月他成为布莱兹于1976年创建的著名的当代演奏团的首席指挥，2004年改任该团首席客座指挥。从上世纪90年代中叶起，诺特开始作为客座指挥与许多知名乐团合作，包括柏林爱乐乐团，他指挥该团为华纳唱片公司录制了捷尔吉·利盖蒂的全部乐队作品，其中包括《安魂曲》，备受赞誉。诺特于2005－2006音乐季的重要演出包括与纽约和洛杉矶爱乐乐团的首次合作，两个乐团均邀请他于2006－2007音乐季再度合作。2006年2月他首次指挥BBC交响乐团，同年12月回到伦敦与爱乐乐团合作演出。

本张专辑由瑞士罗曼德管弦乐团（Orchestre de la Suisse Romande）演奏，Kazuki Yamada担任指挥。罗曼德管弦乐团1918年由瑞士著名指挥家安塞梅创建于日内瓦，最初只有乐手40名，1938年合并了瑞士洛桑广播管弦乐团，成为了一支120的欧洲著名乐团。安塞梅领导乐团长达49年。在这段时间内，为Decca公司灌录过许多优秀的唱片。这支乐团在日内瓦和洛桑两个都市都有定期演奏会，有时也参与日内瓦大剧院的歌剧演出，或参加夏季鲁哲伦音乐节管弦乐团的演奏。 

1967年安塞梅引退后，由保罗·克列茨基（Paul Klecki）接任。1974年由沃尔夫冈·扎瓦利施（Wolfgang Sawallisch）任指挥。在扎瓦利施统率下，乐团的音色开始倾向于德国风格，与安塞美时代的拉丁色彩大不相同。1980年起，霍斯特·斯坦因（Horst Stein）接任常任指挥，乐团风格更倾向于德国。1985年阿明·约尔丹（Armin Jordan）接任。在演奏风格上，瑞士罗曼德乐团节奏明快利落，音色鲜明多彩，对近现代作品的演奏处理尤其擅长。
